Winter’s coming. Are you ready? Just as important, is your home ready? A home that has not been well-winterized can be more than just uncomfortable – in the worst case, it can be unsafe and costly. Here are some basic items to keep in mind when preparing your home for the winter.
Check for moisture around your home. Wood siding, trim, or decking can be pretty significantly damaged if exposed to moisture. Exterior spigots or sprinkler systems that are not drained can cause a lot of damage if temperatures get cold enough.
Keep animals out of your attic. Animals are instinctively drawn to warm places, and this is especially true in the winter. Fill in any secret entrances to your home, especially your attic, since animals living where they ought not can cause serious damage and even health issues.
Get things ready for snow removal. With the weather as unpredictable as it has been in recent years, it’s a good idea to be prepared for surprise snowstorms.
